The Forbidden Necklace
Crystal woke up, smiling.
She bathed, changed into the Dragon Academy uniform, and brushed her blond hair into a ponytail.
She rushed down, grasping her suitcase, and ran outside onto the fresh green grass. She darted to the stable where her dragon, Emerald, was waiting.
She stroked her softly, and she clambered onto her back. She waved bye to her parents, and they flew mile after mile over the large fields.
Finally, they stopped outside the Riddle Gate. Crystal solved it, and went inside.
Students used the thick ivy vines to climb down, and the rose bush bloomed with candy-like jewels.
As Crystal climbed up the marble staircase, she saw Coral, Diamond, and Pearl.
“OMG, Crystal, we have SO much to tell you!”
They rode their dragons and, for a brief moment, it felt like home to her. She held the chains of Emerald, her dragon, and flew into the sunset.
Finally, they went to sleep. Crystal was exhausted. She immediately fell asleep.
For the first time in ages, Crystal hadn’t received a gift. But, when she opened her eyes, she found a piece of paper tucked beneath her cushion.
It said:
Come to The Tower after breakfast.
-Girl In Black
Crystal wolfed down her breakfast, then ran to The Tower.
Her mind raced.
Girl In Black? Who was she? And how did she know Crystal? And what would be there?
Before she knew it, she was waiting outside The Tower. She took a deep breath, then opened the door.
JESSICA?!
Jessica was standing there.
“Hey,” She said.
“I’m sorry. I wanted you to have this.”
She produced a necklace. It was beautiful, but very strange. An eerie purple glow casted around it, with a deep blue crystal in the middle.
She wore it, and chained it up. But the minute it touched Crystal’s skin, it suffocated her.
The chains grasped onto her skin, and the glow was brighter. The purple glow swirled around her, and Crystal’s eyes turned black. She froze.
“CRYSTAL!” Yelled Coral, Diamond, and Pearl in unison.
They ran to her, but they fell back.
“A protective shield. It warps when another person touches it. So sorry, you can’t touch her anymore,” Jessica said.
They gaped.
“J-Jessica?” Muttered Diamond. “Y-You’re expelled!”
“Oh, ha-ha! As IF! My dad donated 50,00,000$ to the school! They got me back in for NOTHING! Oh wait, 50,00,000$! Yep, I’m LOADED!” Giggled Jessica.
“We don’t care!” Yelled Coral.
They grabbed a stick, and broke the chain. The minute it came off, Crystal’s eyes turned back to normal, and the purple glow dimmed.
“CRYSTAL!” They screamed.
Minutes later, Crystal and Jessica found themselves in Miss Fire’s office.
“Jessica Steel! YOU! That was the Forbidden Necklace! A person could DIE if they wore it!”
“Miss Fire, Jessica DID make me wear it! It was so scary! My eyes turned black, and the chains suffocated me, and that eerie purple glow chained me up!”
Miss Fire’s mouth was dropped open in shock. Her eyes glittered with fury, and she spoke-
“Jessica, that is unacceptable. She CANNOT wear that necklace. You KNOW the curse!”
“Yes, Miss Fire, I know the curse. The sister had it. That’s why she died.” Jessica replied in a hard, stoned voice.
“What curse? What sister? Who died?” Crystal said.
“Look, Crystal, we didn’t have this talk, but- Your family is cursed. That’s why Clara died.”
“WHAT?! OK, tell me everything!” She yelled.
“OK!” Sighed Miss Fire.
“Once, when Clara came to this school-“
“She did?!” She screamed.
“Um, yes. Anyways, when she did, she found the Forbidden Necklace outside her dorm room. She wore it, and the exact same thing happened to her. You were lucky you survived, Crystal, but she didn’t. Her body was found in her bed, with the necklace. Scientists research indicates this is made of a very strong essence, made out of The Black Dragon itself. So yes. You are…..cursed.”
Crystal sobbed. Miss Fire hugged her, and Coral, Diamond and Pearl all ran in, listened to the story, then comforted her.
Then, one night, Crystal climbed up to the cliff.
“Clara,” She said. “I love you.”
Then she threw the necklace.
