The Hidden Forest

By Amyra Akhtar

Crystal woke up and ran to get dressed. Excited for her fifth term at Dragon Academy, she was soon, instead of in the car, on her dragon, Emerald’s, back. It was so peaceful flying over fields filled with flowers. Soon enough, she saw the beautiful castle-type building-

-Dragon Academy!

She arrived, unlocked the Riddle Gate, and then met Coral, Diamond and Pearl, all with their dragons. She quickly hugged them, then climbed the staircase to see- Jessica. Ugh. She was only in again because her father had bribed Ms. Fire.

Jessica’s long blond hair was swishing over her shoulders. Her rare gold eyes glittered in menace, and she smirked.

‘Ugh!’ Coral fell on the bed. ‘WHY did SHE have to come?!’

Crystal groaned. ‘I KNOW! It took me 6 weeks to recover from that necklace injury!’

Jessica rolled her eyes and ran down to the lunchroom.

‘Well, we better eat!’ Coral quipped. ‘I’m STARVING!’

Pudding, jams, cake, muffins, cookies, sandwiches, hot dogs, salad, fluffy beef and lots of fried chicken sat on the table.

‘OOH!’ Quipped Crystal. ‘Yummy!’

Loading a hot dog and chocolate cookie on her plate, Coral rehashed her CLEARLY crazy break.

Just then, Jessica came over. Again!!

‘Hey, losers! OMG. Crystal. WHAT is UP with that HAIR?’ Snickered Jessica.

Crystal rolled her eyes and snarled. ‘Look, Jessica, the world DOESN’T revolve around you!! OK?! So please! GO AWAY!’ She growled.

One day, though, Miss Fire told both Crystal and Jessica to have a talk about dragons in the school hall, so even the younger students get a better grip on the subject. Crystal ran and told her friends.

‘I can’t BELIVE I have to have an expert talk with her! This is SO unfair!!’ Crystal moaned.

On the day of the talk, though, Jessica said to the students-

‘Some of us are dragon experts, and some of us are losers with wimpy dead sisters who fail-OW!’

Crystal’s palm connected with Jessica’s cheek, and Crystal screamed angrily.

‘How DARE you talk about Clara like that, you two-faced MENACE!’ Crystal yelled. ‘Stay AWAY from me, get it? And don’t EVER trash talk about MY SISTER again. Never, ever! Unless you want to get slapped again!!’

Jessica stormed off angrily.

‘CRYSTAL!!’ Coral, Diamond and Pearl screeched. ‘A-MAZE!’

Crystal blushed and looked away. ‘That was too embarrassing! She’s gonna make my life HELL!’

Coral looked over at Jessica, who was fuming and scowling madly.

‘Oh, she’ll get over it!’ Coral giggled, and the four linked their arms together.

At the next class, Dragon Riding, Mr. Draco made them groom their dragons.

When they rode, the four girls giggled and rode together happily. They zoomed over the cornfields, and laughed and rode till sunset.

Finally, it was night. But in the middle of the night, Crystal heard footsteps. She followed them out of the room, with the other three girls, who she’d alerted.

They followed the steps until they reached a forest. They had never seen this before! It was dark, but deep within, they saw a faint glow of white light. They followed, curious.

Crystal was the first one to see a girl floating mid-air, singing a different language. White light boomed around her, and she twirled up in a white light, swirling around her in streaks.

It was Jessica!

‘OMG,’ Coral gasped.

‘Oh god!’ Crystal gaped.

‘Wow!’ Pearl quipped.

‘Cool,’ Breathed Diamond.

Jessica turned to them and scowled.

‘Excuse me! Go back and sleep!’

‘Um, WHAT are you DOING, Jessica?!’ Coral said.

‘Oh…..’ Jessica smirked. ‘We’ll see!’
