‘Lisa?’

The words escaped my mouth before I could stop them. Lisa whipped around, glaring, and I ran. My heart pounded, and I finally whipped around to see that she was gone. I breathed out, glad I got out quickly. But why was Lily just in a hoodie, secretly talking to Lisa?

A sick feeling curled in the pit of my stomach. I boarded the city bus, and when I got down at my house, I walked across the front yard and into the backyard pool. It had a tall wooden fence, and it was covered fully. Texting my friends to come over, I hopped into the pool. They all texted me back they’d be there in a minute. I draped my towel around myself and headed inside to make milkshakes. I put some cookies on the platter as well. Running to the door, I greeted them and led them to the backyard.

‘Yum!’ Bubblegum grabbed a cookie. We all laughed.

‘So!’ I tapped my fingers against the pool ledge. ‘I have to tell you something..’

I told them everything, and Mackenzie piped up.

‘I have an idea!’

I quickly put on a black top and jeans, brushed my hair, then grabbed my bag and ran to school.

‘Ready?’ Mackenzie led us to the girls bathroom, where she took her GoPro out of her bag, then carefully placed it on the ledge above the sinks. Then, grabbing a red marker, she scribbled across the mirror:

Lily is taking money from Lisa after school every day!!

‘There! Now, when Lily sees this, she’ll either frantically try to wipe it off, and since she’s a normally chill-I-know-myself kind of girl, she’ll either tell people it isn’t true or call a teacher to report the mess.’ Mackenzie explained.

‘I think it’ll work..’ I started. ‘But guys, we need to be careful, okay?’

‘Chill,’ Mackenzie smiled. ‘Plus, I timed when she goes to the bathroom: at lunch! It’s perfect! At exactly 12:15. So meet me, that exact time, at our table, okay?’

‘Sure!’ We all chorused.

I grabbed my bag and books at my locker. Lily was there, and I expected her to be nice, but instead, she slathered on lip gloss, flipped her blond hair, and turned to me. ‘Nice pants, Lucia,’ She sniggered.

‘Whatever,’ I muttered. Grabbing my bag, I headed off to class.

Finally the bell rung, and I ran to lunch. I saw my friends, and headed over.

‘Come!’ Mackenzie showed the phone. ‘Look!’

Lily entered, and looked at the message for sure. She then glared, then looked directly at the camera. Smirking, she grabbed it, and turned it off. Mackenzie’s phone went black.

‘Oh no!’ I gasped. ‘We’ve gotta avoid her as best as possible!’

We quickly headed off, scared. What if she told my mom? Or dad? They would be furious!

The worst part was..

..that we didn’t even get to know if she did it or not.

And it was all.

Our.

Fault.
