We Go To Rio – Part 1

Hey, it’s Mackenzie!
I was in school when all of a sudden, my friends ran up to me, frantic.
‘Guess what?!’ Bubblegum shrieked.
‘WE’RE GOING TO RIO!!’ They chorused.
I squealed. ‘Rio de Janeiro?! OMG!! But why??’
Nature piped up. ‘We got selected to perform there! As CLUB FAVE!!’
I shrieked. ‘YES!’
After school, we all headed to Lucia’s house to practice in her garage.
I turned up the volume on the speakers that were connected to my mic, Lucia’s drums, and Nature’s guitar, and our opening music blasted out. Lucia smashed her sticks together, which was my cue. I belted out the lyrics to our new song, “FEARLESS.”
Nature then blasted into her guitar solo, while Bubblegum did the most stunning hip-hop moves I’d ever seen. A few bystanders stood to watch, and soon, there was a whole crowd!
Then, I heard chanting.
‘MORE! MORE! MORE!’
‘They want more,’ I said, turning up my mic. ‘So let’s give ‘em more, girls!’
We blasted off into our next song, “Just Keep Watching,” and the crowd LOVED us! I was super proud. We were all set for Rio!
The next day, I was busy packing my bags when my younger sister, Olivia, burst into the room, ran over to me, and hugged me.
‘I’ll miss you,’ she spoke into my shirt.
I smiled. ‘Same, Oli.’
My mum drove me to the airport. I hugged her, then ran over to my friends, who were giggling like crazy.
‘OMG! I cannot BELIEVE we’re going to Rio de Janeiro!!’ Bubblegum squealed. ‘It’s gonna be AMAZING!!’
FINALLY, the announcement to board the planes came on, and we all headed there.
I sat next to Lucia, while Bubblegum sat with Nature. Lucia scrolled through her phone excitedly.
‘Mac,’ she said, turning to me. ‘I TOTALLY forgot to ask you! My birthday is coming up soon. What’d you think I should do?’
‘Hey!’ I said. ‘The four of us should have a celebratory SLEEPOVER!! First, we could have a backyard movie night, and then lounge in your pool. Then, we could just play some games, order some food, and order an AWESOME, beautiful cake for you!!’
Lucia bounced in her seat. ‘That’s an AWESOME idea, Mac! Thanks!’ She hugged me tight.
I texted the plan to Bubblegum and Nature, who agreed excitedly.
Finally, we landed! The fresh sunshine warmed my face instantly, and I was flooded with hope.
Nothing could ruin this journey with my BFFs!! ❤️
